Pass the Rose
The River Does Not Send a Thank-You Note
The Canning River has no awards night.

The Canning River has no awards night.
It does not send thank-you emails, pose beside a novelty cheque or remember to tag the people who turned up with gloves on Monday morning.
The Canning River Regional Park Volunteers describe themselves more plainly: a small, dedicated group caring for the park between Nicholson Road Bridge and Adenia Lagoon.
Their work list is equally unfashionable—planting, mulching, weeding, collecting seed, surveying birds and returning to the same patches often enough for repair to become real.
No ribbon-cutting required.
The park lies less than ten kilometres from Perth’s centre. The City of Canning lists the group among the local environmental volunteers protecting waterways and bushland. Their own page says membership is free and help is welcome, whether someone can offer a little time or a lot.
This is what stewardship usually looks like before it becomes a government slogan: dirt under a thumbnail, a bucket of weeds and somebody quietly remembering where the seedlings went in.
Pass the rose to the people doing the patient work.
Independent appreciation only. The Rose Mission has no partnership with the group, receives no money and is not collecting on its behalf.
